SOC 2 and AI: Meeting Compliance Requirements
SOC 2 compliance is the gold standard for demonstrating that your organization handles customer data responsibly. CC6.1 — Logical Access Controls
This criterion requires that the organization implements logical access security measures. For AI tools, this means:

CC8.1 — Change Management
When your organization adds new AI tools, changes AI policies, or modifies DLP rules, these changes should be documented and reviewed. Treat AI governance changes with the same rigor as infrastructure or application changes.
Building SOC 2 Evidence for AI Controls
Auditors need evidence, not just descriptions. Here is the evidence package for AI-related controls:
Policy evidence. Your AI acceptable use policy, dated, version-controlled, and with employee acknowledgment records. Include the approved tool list and vendor assessment documentation.

Audit trail evidence. A sample of AI interaction logs demonstrating that usage is tracked with user, tool, timestamp, and DLP event details. Show that logs are retained for the required period and are tamper-resistant.
Common SOC 2 Findings Related to AI
Based on emerging audit trends, the most common AI-related findings include:
- No AI usage policy. The organization permits AI tools but has no documented policy governing their use.
- AI providers not in vendor management. AI tools are used but not included in the third-party vendor assessment program.
- No DLP controls for AI. The organization has DLP for email and cloud storage but none for AI tool interactions.
- Insufficient audit logging. AI tool usage is not logged, or logs do not capture sufficient detail for audit review.
